Best Swim Jammers for Triathletes

Most triathletes do almost all of their swim training in a chlorinated pool, and a cheap suit that sags and goes see-through after a few months is a common rite of passage. A good jammer fixes that. It stays put on flip turns, cuts drag compared with loose trunks, and the right fabric can last for hundreds of hours in the water.

This guide covers the jammers worth buying in 2026, split into two groups: chlorine-resistant training jammers for everyday laps, and tech (race) jammers for swim meets and time trials. We built it from brand specs plus testing and reviews from 220 Triathlon, YourSwimLog, and SwimOutlet customers.

Training Jammers

These are the suits you’ll wear for 95% of your swimming. The most important spec is the fabric: 100% polyester (often called PBT) holds up to chlorine far longer than Lycra-heavy blends, which fade and stretch out quickly.

Speedo Solid Endurance+ Jammer ($55)

The default pick for a reason. Speedo’s Endurance+ fabric is built for chlorine, and Speedo says it lasts up to 20 times longer than ordinary swimwear fabric. It’s YourSwimLog’s most durable training jammer pick, and it has a 4.4 out of 5 rating from more than 900 SwimOutlet reviews, with most praising how well it holds its shape. The tradeoffs: it has less stretch than softer suits, some swimmers find it snug in the thigh, and sizing can vary a little between batches.

Who it’s for: Anyone swimming three or more times a week who wants one suit that lasts.

TYR Durafast Elite Jammer ($59)

TYR’s Durafast Elite fabric is a polyester blend with a little spandex, which gives it more stretch than a 100% polyester suit. TYR calls it chlorine-proof and colorfast, rates it for more than 300 hours of use, and adds UPF 50+ sun protection and an antimicrobial lining. Buyers on TYR’s site rate it 4.8 out of 5, mostly for fit; the main complaint is that it’s slow to dry. Sizes run 26 to 38, and it’s frequently on sale for well under list price.

Who it’s for: Swimmers who want a durable suit that feels a bit softer and stretchier than the Speedo. The sun protection is a bonus for outdoor pools.

Arena Team Solid Jammer ($54)

A no-frills, 100% polyester jammer that Arena describes as extremely chlorine resistant, with OEKO-TEX certified fabric. It doesn’t have the review history of the Speedo or TYR, but it’s built from the same kind of fabric that makes those suits last. Arena was running a site-wide promo code when we checked, so look for one at checkout.

Who it’s for: Swimmers who want a plain, durable suit and don’t care about brand.

Jolyn Brolyn Jammer ($50)

Jolyn is best known for bold prints, and the Brolyn brings that to a chlorine-proof, 100% polyester jammer with an above-the-knee cut. Jolyn says it fits snug and suggests sizing up. Fewer reviews than the big brands, but the fabric is the same durable type.

Who it’s for: Swimmers who want something more fun than solid black, without giving up durability.

Also worth a look: 220 Triathlon’s top-rated jammers this year include the Coots LF and HUUB Bright 2, both made from recycled or highly chlorine-resistant fabrics. They’re excellent, but they’re UK brands and harder to find in the US.

Race (Tech) Jammers

Tech jammers use thin, compressive, water-repellent fabric to hold your body in a better position and reduce drag. They’re meant for racing, not daily training: they’re expensive, tight enough to take real effort to put on, and they wear out much faster than a training suit.

Do triathletes need one? Usually not. In a triathlon you’ll swim in a wetsuit, a swimskin, or your tri suit. A tech jammer earns its keep if you also race masters swim meets or do pool time trials to set training paces.

TYR Thresher Jammer ($150)

The Thresher is TYR’s entry-level race jammer, made from a nylon and elastane fabric with water-repellent fibers. It gives you some of the compression and slick feel of a tech suit at less than half the price of the flagship suits.

Who it’s for: Swimmers trying a race suit for the first time, or masters swimmers who race a few times a year.

Arena Powerskin Carbon Air2 Jammer ($325)

A long-running favorite among tech suits, with carbon fibers woven into a polyamide and elastane fabric. Arena lists it as FINA (now World Aquatics) approved. SwimOutlet’s tech suit testers rate it best for 200 meters and up, and buyers praise its comfort; the common notes are that it runs small (size up) and that a few owners have seen the logos peel. Arena had it on sale for $260 when we checked.

Who it’s for: Distance-minded swimmers who want a comfortable tech suit for longer events.

Speedo Fastskin LZR Pure Valor 2.0 Jammer ($365)

Speedo built the Valor 2.0 as an all-distance suit: a light, single-layer fabric with a water-repellent coating and a compressive seam on the inner leg. It’s World Aquatics approved. SwimOutlet’s testers gave it top marks for comfort and ease of putting on, but rated its compression as fairly mild, which is the point. It feels less restrictive than sprint-focused suits like Speedo’s own Pure Intent 2.0. Expect it to take some practice to get on the first few times.

Who it’s for: Triathletes and distance swimmers who want a premium race suit that doesn’t feel like a straitjacket.

How to Choose a Jammer

Sizing. Jammers are sized by waist in inches, and your swim size is often one size smaller than your pants size. A training jammer should feel like snug compression shorts, with about two fingers of room under the waistband. Tech suits are a different story: sizing varies a lot by brand, so check each brand’s chart, and read reviews for notes like “runs small.”

Fabric. For training, look for 100% polyester or a polyester blend with only a little spandex. Suits that are mostly Lycra or spandex feel softer at first but fade and lose their shape much faster in chlorine.

Care. Rinse your suit in cold fresh water after every swim, squeeze the water out instead of wringing it, and let it air-dry in the shade. Skip the washing machine and dryer. If you swim most days, rotating two or three suits makes each one last longer.

Can You Race a Triathlon in a Jammer?

Usually not on its own. World Triathlon rules require race clothing to cover the front of your torso and go over both shoulders, so a jammer by itself isn’t legal race kit at World Triathlon events. USA Triathlon requires swimwear in non-wetsuit swims to be 100% textile, which jammers are. In practice, most triathletes race in a tri suit because it works for all three legs, and keep their jammers for pool training. Check your race’s athlete guide if you’re unsure what’s allowed.
